The UN in Kyrgyzstan firmly believes that there is a strong synergy between resolution of the problems that youth face, improved evolution of human development in the country, and the mandate of the UN System. It is possible to achieve positive and sustainable impact with coherent programming in support of youth, even in the relatively short time frame of the current Country Development Strategy (2005 - 2010). This is a result of several factors: the total population in the country is small (so change can be effected rapidly); there is growing political recognition of the problem (with the creation of a State Agency focused on youth policy); and because the vast majority of UN agencies in the country work in one way or another with youth.

There is great potential to achieve significant and lasting change through combining the efforts of UN agencies to achieve a coherent approach with greater and more sustained impact than the sum of current individual efforts.

Objectives

  • To unite efforts to better analyze and understand the challenges facing youth;
  • To review the current range and scope of actual and potential UN interventions;
  • To involve and empower youth in defining and advocating for the best possible youth policies, which harness their full potential to contribute to national development
  • To generate coherent, value added and results focused programming around the overlap of problems and potential response.
