Parliamentarians and the UN Country Team Meet to Discuss Further Cooperation Send to a friend Print Version
Bishkek, April 9, 2013 - Deputies of the Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic met today with representatives of the UN system to discuss current activities and opportunities for future cooperation.
During the meeting, the UN Country Team introduced some of the main activities of the UN system in the country to the Members of the Parliament. Particular attention was paid to the current United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF, 2012-2016), the main directions of which are Peace and Cohesion, Effective Democratic Governance, and Human Rights; Social Inclusion and Equity; Inclusive and Sustainable Job-Rich Growth for Poverty Reduction.
In particular in their statements, Heads of UN Agencies spoke about issues such as the need to strengthen the peace dialogue, human rights and gender equality as a basis for sustainable development. Special attention was paid to good governance and social equality.
The Vice Speaker of the Parliament Ms. Asia Sasykbaeva emphasized the importance of cooperation with international organizations and, above all, with the United Nations: “Here in Kyrgyzstan we really value the cooperation with the United Nations. The UN is an international organization, which has a unique mandate. It is designed to address the governments pressing issues on global development, which countries cannot solve alone”, she concluded.
During the meeting it was agreed that similar meetings would be held regularly in the future. Furthermore a recommendation about cooperation between the UN and the Kyrgyz Republic in the future was made.
