To celebrate the 30th anniversary of CEDAW, UNIFEM supported an initiative by women’s human rights activists - a community art project ‘CEDAW in Kyrgyzstan: a movement towards justice’.

The community art project represents a unique opportunity to increase the visibility of communities and groups of vulnerable women of Kyrgyzstan, whose rights are violated and the whose voices are not heard.

This volume, ‘CEDAW in Kyrgyzstan: movement towards justice’, contains real stories of discrimination against women in Kyrgyzstan. These are the stories of more than 150 hundred women of different backgrounds, from all regions in Kyrgyzstan and social groups demonstrate existing gap between “de jure” realization of women’s human rights proclaimed by Convention on Elimination of All Form of Discrimination against Women and their “de facto” implementation.
