Established in January 2009, the UNIDO in Kyrgyzstan aims to be a strong partner for the Kyrgyz Government in its efforts to enhance the competitiveness of Kyrgyz industry and its integration into the global market. The proposed 2012-2016 Programme focuses on strengthening the governance of industrial development, establishing the required quality infrastructure, increasing revenues and jobs, particularly through adding value to both local and export markets, and developing renewable sources of energy.

“History teaches us that manufacturing acts as a stimulus for economic transformation in developing countries. Industry drives innovation and technical progress, which are taken up in turn by other sectors of the economy, like agriculture and services. In this way, industrialization benefits society as a whole."
