Established in 1997, UNODC is the lead United Nations entity in the struggle against illicit drugs, international crime and terrorism. In Kyrgyzstan, UNODC provides assistance in the areas of drug control, crime prevention and criminal justice. Particular attention is paid to strengthening the capacity of the State Service on Drug Control and supporting prison reform.

“Illicit drugs undermine economic and social development and contribute to crime, instability, insecurity and the spread of HIV. To support its activities, UNODC takes an approach based on human rights, the international drug control conventions and international standards and norms.”
